NEW Teaching Team in 6KM!

It has been a great start to the new year so far! We are very excited to welcome Miss Tyler, Mrs Harrison and Mr Cook who have joined 6KM this year! Miss Tyler will be working with Y5, teaching English and Maths. Mrs Harrison will be supporting Y5 in the morning and Mr Cook will be leading group activities to support learning across the curriculum through the day.

We are very fortunate to have such enthusiastic and experienced practitioners supporting our children.

Gorilla by Anthony Browne

In English we have used this spectacular picture book to inspire and improve our writing. The children have begun to write this warm and sensitive story in their own words. This popular story, with beautiful and slightly surreal illustrations, has influenced their creative side enabling them to create complex sentences while developing vocabulary.

Fractions and Decimals!

The children in Year 5 have been developing their understanding of fractions in Maths. They have been finding equivalent fractions and adding them. They have been very persistent in solving word problems involving fractions, learning how fractions can be used in real life. We will continue our work with fractions – prepare yourself, there is more to come!

The children in Year 6 have been working on decimal multiplication and division using short written method. Please see below for a basic refresher for those who want to practice their skills at home.

Next week we will continue with decimals. We will practice converting decimals to fractions, fractions to decimals and turning them to percentages. Please encourage your children to practice at home.

Science

Our journey to the universe has begun! We have started to learn about the solar system. The children have been exploring the Earth’s orbit around the Sun and writing about the structure of the solar system.

Geography

In the last two weeks we have learned about the location and the structure of the rainforest. The children have studied the characteristics and the climate of the rainforest to create their very own weather forecast.
