23rd - 27th January 2017

Date: 29th Jan 2017 @ 7:42pm

Important!!!

We would like to invite all parents to attend a SATs information meeting. The children have been given an information letter, please respond accordingly.

We also need parent’s cooperation and support to make sure homework is completed and returned on time. This week’s Maths homework involves the children practising using formal written methods (something they do every day when they complete their Daily Five). If they are finding aspects of this homework difficult or they lose their homework you can access a copy by following the link below. To view the accompanying videos showing you how to answer the questions you must open this document using Google Chrome. NOTE: The children have only the first three pages of this document for this week’s homework.

In addition, we provide support during homework lunch club on Friday.  We believe that together we can make a difference!

English

During English, the children in 6KM have been working with the amazing and inspirational story – Gorilla by Anthony Browne. We have been using senses to describe a setting for a story.

Well done to all the children in Y5 who took the time to learn their spellings and the children in Y6 who have begun writing their own stories using ideas gathered during the last two weeks.

Maths

The children in Y5 have been looking at decimal numbers. They have been ordering and adding decimals.

The children in Y6 have also been working with decimals - converting them to percentages. They have been solving word problems to develop understanding of using percentages in real life.

Science

We have been finding out about the Earth and space, describing the Sun, Earth and moon as approximately spherical bodies.  Please ask your child to demonstrate how the Earth orbits the Sun. You may need three members of the family to represent how the Earth, the Moon and the Sun move. Let your child become a mini astronomer for a moment.

Geography

During Geography we have been learning about the layers of the rainforest. After thorough research, children were able to produce mini posters with detailed description of the fascinating rainforest.
