Welcome to summer term! 24th -28th April

Date: 1st May 2017 @ 10:13am

Welcome to summer term – SATs season is upon us!

No matter how much SATs preparation time has been put in or the confidence level, the final week before the exams can be nerve-racking. Remember this time is an opportunity to review and refresh, not to learn new content.

With SATs around the corner I would like to remind you all that it’s not only hard work and revision that helps us achieve but also our wellbeing!

It is very important that our children attend school regularly to make the most of revision days and practice at home, but also improve their wellbeing.

Make sure your child gets plenty of rest. As we all know: going to bed early, eating nutritious meals, drinking plenty of water and relaxing study breaks increase the chance of success.

The best way to succeed on test day is to take care of yourself in the week leading up to it!

English

It has been another busy week in 6KM. Children in Year 5 have been investigating non-chronological reports, gathering and discussing key features. In order to verify their knowledge, they prepared presentations about computers.

In Year 6, we have been improving grammar, punctuation and reading skills – preparing for the next week. Although it seems like revision before the SATs has taken over our whole life, we also had some de-stressing time – watching a Puffin Virtually Live webcast about Terry Pratchett’s book ’The Wee Free Men’.

Maths

The children in Year 5 have been learning about angles. They have been drawing and measuring angles – mastering their skills using protractors.

This week the revision in Year 6 included: analysis of data from the pie chart and graph line, calculating the mean of set data and also investigation of 2D shapes.

History

During this summer term we are going to learn about The Tudors. Last week we have been gathering information through analysis of one of Hans Holbein’s painting, The Ambassadors. It was a very inspiring introduction to the subject.
